Felső Tisza-part · salami museum and Pick Arena
Szeged's two Picks: the salami cured by the Tisza air, and the team that got promoted in the rain.
The recipe for Pick winter salami was created by Márk Pick in the late 19th century. The spice mix is still a secret known only to the salami master. According to the maker, the flavour also needs the cool air of the Tisza and Szeged's microclimate. A Hungaricum since 2014.
At Felső Tisza-part 10 a museum tells the story of salami and Szeged paprika, with tasting.
On the same bank, at number 35, stands the Pick Arena, on the site of the old city stadium. It opened on 9 December 2021 and holds about 8200 spectators. In the first match Szeged beat German record champions Kiel 30–26 in the Champions League.
In 1975 the team was still playing outdoors, on concrete, when it won promotion to the top flight in pouring rain: 16–16 against Komló, with a late goal. It has never been relegated since, and won the EHF Cup in 2014.
