The Big Slide

Napfényfürdő Aquapolis · Torontál tér 1 · on the site of the old Ligetfürdő

The pool here was designed by Hungary's first Olympic champion. Today a 30-metre tower stands next to it, and you slide 272 metres out of it.

At the Újszeged end of the Belvárosi Bridge, between the bridge and the Partfürdő, the Szeged Swimming Club's competition pool, the SZUE, opened on 18 September 1930. It was designed by Alfréd Hajós: Hungary's first Olympic champion was also an architect. The 50-metre pool was the country's second competition pool.

For decades Szeged's swimmers trained and raced here. Attila Czene, the 1996 Atlanta Olympic champion, started swimming here too. In 1988 the pool was shortened to 33⅓ metres so water polo could be played in it.

Later it was renamed Ligetfürdő, with thermal water and a leisure pool. By the 2000s it already had four giant slides.

The Napfényfürdő Aquapolis was built next to it and opened in March 2010. At the time it was presented as the country's biggest water park. The old pool and beach section reopened on 1 May as part of the summer lido.

The main attraction is the 30-metre tower. You take the lift up and set off from 27 metres. The enclosed “anaconda” is 272 metres long, the other giant tube 223. There are 13 slides in all, about 1000 metres together.

At the opening it was advertised as Europe's longest year-round body slide.
